Sunny South Herts Hosts Women’s Interclub Foursomes

Essendon's Tilly O'Leary, Riya Chandaria, Sarah Marley and Janine Cicchirillo take the Challenge Cup

A sunny south Herts played host to this year’s Women’s Interclub Foursomes. After Thunder and Lightning caused the abandonment of the 2023 Championship, it was great to get such beautiful conditions to match those of the South Herts course.

Despite the tricky nature of Foursomes play, there were some excellent scores, showcasing the strength of Women’s golf in Hertfordshire.

Four separate tournaments were being vied for, with both scratch and nett prizes being awarded to the best pair and the best team.

The main Challenge Cup, awarded to the best team scratch, was won by Essendon Golf Club, the consistency shown by the individual pairings of Tilly O’Leary with Riya Chandaria and Sarah Marley with Janine Cicchirillo saw both pairings finish in the top 6, with their scores combined, they ran out with a winning margin of 2 shots from runners up Harpenden.

However, it was the Harpenden pairing of Alison Franklin and Sally Odell who claimed the scratch pairs prize, taking away the county maps awarded to the winners.

In the nett team and pairs it was Hadley Wood who made a clean sweep.

In the pairs, a fantastic nett -2 saw Deborah Lear and Breda Franzmann collect the Hertfordshire Coasters and with this score combined with their fellow club pair of Simonetta Ciccone and Lena Wang’s +2, the combined level par score saw them storm to a 6 stroke margin of victory.
