County Senior Womens Team defeat Cambs & Hunts and tie with Bucks in recent matches

Reports from Womens Senior Manager Lindsay Murray-Gray;

Getting the Season Off to a Flying Start

The Senior Women’s season got off to a great start in their first match at our lovely new home East Herts.  They played Cambs & Hunts in the East Region league and won 4-2.  A couple of late changes to the team kept things interesting for their manager, Lindsay Murray-Gray, but a bit of drama always adds to the sweetness of the end result.

The newest player in the squad, Holly Lovell from Centurion led the team out and got off to a winning start, always fabulous to have a 100% record!  A heartfelt welcome to Holly who can definitely stay!

The match was played predominantly in rain, of course it was, it seems to be the norm now however the sun came out for the last few holes and it was delightful, a glimpse of what the future could look like….

Both teams were made to feel very welcome by the East Herts team throughout their day and the team is looking forward to sharing the stunning course and excellent hospitality with the other counties that they will be hosting this year.

Thanks to the whole team for playing, Holly, Suzanne, Sally C, Sandra & Birgitte.

The Sun Shines at Harewood Downs, No Really!

The Senior Women started their campaign in the BBHH&O
region with a trip to the challenging course that is Harewood Downs.  Shirt sleeves were finally the order of the
day for the team that was led out by the newly crowned Senior
Women’s Amateur Champion 2024, Jackie Foster of Bishop Stortford GC
.  Congratulations Jackie, very
well deserved.

More late substitutions were in play, however one of our
super subs came in with a 6&5 win and a dream fulfilled as she had grown up
in a house backing on to the course and had not played it – thanks and very
well done to Sue Knight of Moor Park GC.

The course proved to be a tactical test with highly sloping
fairways and interesting par threes in a variety of lengths set to get the
golfing brain going.  It is probably fair
to say that the rest of the team found the green complexes a little trickier
than Sue and Jackie did however they hung on in there and managed to achieve a
very friendly half.

Thank you also to Suzanne Thrower, Sandra Moses, Debbie
Nichols and Sally Odell for playing.
