Report from Lindsay Murray-Gray:

The Herts Senior Women’s team travelled to Bury St Edmunds GC for the second match in the newly formed East Region League.  The sun shone, and stayed shining throughout the match and firmed up the course which was being primed for their Club Championships in a couple of weeks time.

The team secured a hard fought draw in the straight matchplay event and also finished drawn in the Hambro scoring system.  For those not familiar with this, players continue playing after the over-arching result has been achieved.  For example if a player wins 4/3, the match continues to the 18th with holes won and lost being recorded so a player could win the match 4/3 but lose the last 3 holes so this result would be Win1up.  Or they could win the 16th and draw the 17th & 18th so this result would be Win 5up.  This method is being trialled in this inaugural year but the team’s initial feedback was that it was hard to focus once the initial result had been achieved.  This would be exacerbated if the weather was poor as it was in last game against Berkshire.  The jury is out.
