MEN'S SCRATCH LEAGUE WINNERS 2023 - HARPENDEN COMMON, REPRESENTED BY RYAN & DEAN HODGES

78 guests from around the County attended the annual Volunteers Dinner event, held last Thursday, 23rd November, at Mid Herts Golf Club.

The social function which encompasses a thank you to all the various tireless volunteers, without which we would not be able to function, alongside the presentation of many of our annual prizes. 

The guests of honour on the evening were Jackie Foster of Bishop's Stortford, in respect of her victory at the R&A Senior Womens Amateur Championship held at Woodhall Spa back in July and also Clare and Andy Bigham, mother and father of Jack Bigham of Harpenden, in the absence of Jack while studying in the US, in respect of his selection and playing in the Walker Cup matches for GB&I at St Andrews in September. Both are considered to have achieved the absolite pinnacle in their respective amateur fields. 

Various other County prizes were presented on the evening, namely Scratch League shields for the 2023 season, with Harpenden Common picking up the premier Men's title represented by Ryan & Dean Hodges collecting the trophy and shield on the night and Essendon picking up the female equivalent and picking up the trophy and shield was Elaine Ratcliffe. 

The Boys and Girls Order of Merit (BOOM & GOOM) winners were on hand to collect their trophies, Ben Sessions of Bishop's Stortford won the Scratch Boys title, with Alfie Akers of Brickendon Grange winning the Handicap title. In the Girls event, Tala Clarke of Knebworth won the Scratch prize and Lilly Newton of Bishop's Stortford won the Handicap prize. 

James Baxter of Centurion retained the Boys Junior Challenge Trophy with a stroke average of 72.88 from the major junior events across the 2023 season and finally Niall Johnston of Letchworth swooped both Men's titles awarded with both the Men's Order of Merit and the Men's 1st Team Player of the Year.
