Hertfordshire Golf – Schools George McPartlin Trophy.

Sunday 17th September 2023 – Dunstable Downs Golf Club.

The Regional Final is an inter-county Championship called the ‘George McPartlin Trophy’ which, in 2023, was held at Dunstable Downs Golf Club on Sunday 17th September. The players who qualified to represent the Hertfordshire team were the top six boys and three girls with the required Handicap Index and availability from the Mid-Handicap Championship.

Following a glorious Saturday, Sunday was wet and windy…. Dunstable Downs style ..... and a tough challenge for the players.

Unfortunately, Middlesex were not able to field a team so the 27 players from Hertfordshire, Essex and this year’s host county, Bedfordshire, teed off in fairly unpleasant conditions. However the rain eased after the first 6 holes and the predicted thunder and lightning never materialised so all 18 holes were completed.

A huge thank you to Dave Sweetnam, Bedfordshire Manager and his support staff for their time and effort in running the event and to Dunstable Downs Golf Club who very kindly offered the ESGA courtesy of the course, which was greatly appreciated.

A huge shout out to the food and beverage staff who looked after everyone's lunch and tea and, of course, the greenkeeping staff who presented the golf course in immaculate condition.
