Report from Women's Seniors Team Manager Lindsay Murray-Gray;
On Monday 11th September the Womens’ County Seniors Team played their final match in the East Region league in what was billed to be the last day of the recent heatwave. The temperature at Welwyn Garden City GC was thankfully far more bearable than the fixture played there the previous week.
Fortified by a late breakfast the players set off to do battle. Like last week against Suffolk, all of the matches were very tight with all of them going to at least the 16th hole. The newly redesigned 17th hole, with its very well-placed bunkers and challenging approach shot, certainly focuses the mind when a match is still alive. Club selection on the 18th is equally testing however the Herts players that made it that far chose well to secure their points.
The level of competition has definitely risen since the league was formalised last season however these fixtures are always played in a tremendously lovely spirit and this year was no different. Sadly, Herts will not be retaining the title they secured in the inaugural year however there’s always next year. Training starts now!
Thanks go to everyone who has played for the Womens’ Senior Team this year and to all of the lovely reserves who waited patiently in the wings.
