Report from Team Manager Lindsay Murray-Gray;

Well, what a turnaround in the weather and therefore the course conditions.  It seems that everything we thought we knew about distances and green variabilities has gone out of the window.  Away go the thermals and back out came the sunscreen.

The Womens’ Senior team played their penultimate match in the East Region League at Welwyn Garden City on Monday 4th September in some pretty humid conditions.  It was probably their closest fought one of the season so far, despite the scoreline.  All matches made it to the 17th green so the visitors got to see the whole of the course, if you include a stroll up the 18th fairway, whether they wanted to or not in the heat...

Herts struck early with Charlie Doyle taking the first game on the 18th green but Suffolk found some strength in their middle order and won the next three matches.  It was then up to the rear guard to pull things back which Paula got started by winning 2&1 and Lindsay taking her match to the 18th green.  Suffolk hit a super shot on to the green with the Herts ball just off.  Despite a good chip which narrowly missed the hole, the momentum was with Suffolk.  A long range curling downhill putt dropped for birdie and left Herts with only a half rather than a win in that match.  Sadly this meant Herts lost 3.5 to 2.5 so with one more match to play on Monday 11th September against Norfolk, it’s still all to play for.

Thanks to Charlie Doyle, Sally Close, Sally Odell, Sarah Hurst-Malin, Paula DeGiulio and Lindsay Murray-Gray for playing and to Karen Bond for coming over to lend her support.
