HG Competition changes for 2023

There are additions and changes to the HG schedule of competitions in 2023.

The County Fourball Championship at Hanbury Manor on Wednesday April 19th is an 18-hole stableford pairs event that is now open to men and women. Clubs are invited to enter two pairs, one comprising two men and the other comprising two women. Players must have an HI of 28.4 or less at the time of entry. HG suggests entrants are the most recent winners of club Fourball competitions, but each club may make its own choice. Clubs are also welcome to nominate a 3rd pair comprising two men, two women or one man and one woman, which will gain entry if space is available.

Players should talk to their club if they are interested in being entered.

The Colts Championship at Welwyn Garden City on Sunday June 25th will include a separate competition for women. This is a 36 hole scratch championship for female players aged 18 or over on 1/1/23 and 34 or under on the day of the event. Players must have a HI of 9.4 or less at the time of entry.

The Junior Spring Meeting at Porters Park on Thursday April 13th includes the Junior Champion Club, the Girls Spring Meeting and a new Boys Spring Meeting. All players in the JCC will be automatically entered in either the Girls or Boys Spring Meeting. Girls and Boys not playing in the JCC may enter either Spring Meeting individually.The closing date for entry is March 27th.

The De Paula Cup will be played over the season as a handicap knockout for women with a HI between 12.5 and 20.4 at the time of entry.

The combined handicap limit for a pair playing in the Mixed Foursomes Championship has been increased to 24. This is a 36 hole scratch competition played at Letchworth on Friday September 15th.

The Ann Maclaurin Greensomes had only attracted very small fields in recent years. It will not be played this year.

Finally, a further reminder about the new Women’s fourball betterball knockout competition. This is open to all women who are Home members of an affiliated Hertfordshire Golf Club. Players in the pair may be from different clubs. One player in each pair must have a HI of 18.0 or less at time of entry; the other player must have a HI between 18.1 and 36.0.

The maximum entry is 64 pairs - if oversubscribed, entries will be accepted in the order of date received. The closing date for entry is April 3rd, but entries are coming in fast so please enter soon to avoid possible disappointment!  Entry form click here to download and view.
