Hertfordshire Golf – Girls Autumn Meeting.
Friday October 29th 2021 – Verulam Golf Club.
Disappointingly, the weather on the last day of the October Half Term let us down and dawned with heavy rain and a strong wind. None the less, all twenty-one entrants turned up at Verulam Golf Club to contest the final event of the 2021 Hertfordshire Golf Tournament calendar.
The format for both the Girls Spring & Autumn Meetings is 18-holes of stableford golf with prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd, along with a prize for the best ‘gross’ stableford score.
There are also two salvers for the amalgamated Nett & Gross score winners of the Spring & Autumn Meetings however this year the pandemic meant that the Spring meeting had to be cancelled, so these two pieces of silverware remain in the HG cabinet.
The results of the tournament are as follows:
The winner of the Girls Autumn Meeting Cup with 35 stableford points, a terrific score given the conditions, from Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club, was Alice Maskell (18).
In 2nd place on countback, from Letchworth Golf Club with 34 stableford points was Ixie Akpan (5) and in 3rd place also with 34 stableford points, was Ella Patel (17) from Moor Park Golf Club
The best ‘Gross’ stableford score and winner of the Barbara Quirk Shield from The Melbourne Club was Sophia Fullbrook (-2) who retuned 34 stableford points.
A sumptuous and body warming Lasagne, salad and garlic bread was served by the amazing chef at Verulam prior to the presentation which was presided over by the HG president Mrs Anne Pyke who was keen to thank all the volunteers, referees, players and parents for what has been a challenging but rewarding year under the Covid-19 restrictions.
