Senior Ladies narrowly miss out on a win in Essex

Herts v Essex @ Wanstead GC Friday 16th July 2021

Herts Senior ladies travelled to Wanstead on Friday for their annual match V Essex, where they narrowly lost 4-3. Hertfordshire Golf President Anne Pyke, travelled to her old course to see the team off from the start and encouraged us along the way.

Unfortunately, COVID caused issues again with "Pingdemic" taking its toll forcing 2 players to isolate just days before the match. With reserves dwindling away, manager Aly Nedza (WGCGC) again stepped into play and Liz O’Hare (WGCGC) had her debut for the team as the 7th player. Delighted to be asked, Liz was unlucky to lose 1 down on the 18th, where her match was the decider as Herts were 3-3 at that point.

Jackie Foster returning from National events, leading the team on an extremely hot day winning 3&1, followed by Sandra Moses winning 6&5. Moira Sleeman (Sandy Lodge) and Lesley Scammel (Sandy Lodge) lost to 2 very strong Essex players, whilst the weather took its toll on Sarah Hirst-Malin who having been 3 up battled to the 18th to lose 2 down despite nearly passing out. Having spotted an adder on the course after the 17th green, Aly Nedza was happy to walk in having secured her first win for the team, 3&1.

All in all a day that had a bit of everything!

Many thanks to the team, namely; Jackie Foster, Sandra Moses, Moira Sleeman, Lesley Scammel, Sarah Hirst-Malin, Aly Nedza & Liz O’Hare.

Aly Nedza
