Chesfield Downs Golf & Country Club came to the rescue of Hertfordshire Golf by offering to host this ‘Covid’ rescheduled event, originally due to be held on Wednesday 7th April at The Hertfordshire G&CC.
Chesfield Downs, as always, did us proud by not only presenting the course in terrific condition with very quick greens (and penal rough), but they kindly turned down the ‘wind’ by a couple of notches which, for anyone who has played at Chesfield Downs before, knows is the main defence of the course.
The weather was agreeable, over-cast but warm enough and was rain free until literally the very end, in fact I think it was actually only the remaining HG officials that got slightly wet!
Of course, the Finals of the European Championship football tournament was very much in everyone’s mind, so food was served prior to the players tee times and the presentation was deferred, allowing players to return their scores and leave the course in time to get home for the kick off.
Congratulations to Little Hay Golf Club who returned a winning, two from three cards with a combined stableford score of 76 points achieved by Sapphire Boyce (16) 42 points and Thomas Ashton (12) 34 points, the third card of 30 points by Noah Scotchbrook (24).
The runners up, Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club B trio, who’s best two from three cards produced 74 stableford points achieved by Frankie Gilder (9) 37 points and Eddie Cook (14) 37 points with their third card of 33 points by Harry James (18).
3rd place went to East Herts Golf Club with 73 stableford points being the addition of Ethan Vater (11) 37 points and Austin Cook (19) 36 points and their third card was Ciaran Meehan (13) 27 points.
Our thanks to the players and all their parents, the staff and management at Chesfield Downs GC and of course, our tireless volunteer referees without whom we could not run the Championships.
