Aldenham Golf & Country club in Hertfordshire, which is backing the drive to grow the game, have achieved the SafeGolf club accreditation from England Golf.
England Golf launched the SafeGolf accreditation for clubs in late 2018, which meet high standards to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. To achieve it, clubs need to meet the standards for safeguarding which are already part of the GolfMark Award. Some Hertfordshire clubs do currently have Golf Mark but Aldenham are the first club in Hertfordshire to accomplish this new separate accreditation.
Aldenham, which boasts a traditional parkland 18 hole Church Course and a 9 hole Village course, was founded in the early 1980’s and since then, has been a major part of the village community in the area. Under new management and ownership in 2017, the club have gone from strength to strength with new initiatives for members and guests alike. These include night golf, Give golf a Go competitions and social events for all. With new assistant Professional, Andrew Cameron starting in 2019, the club now also have a thriving junior section seeing more than 20 juniors weekly and still growing. With national and county initiatives set up at the club in 2020, the club are leading the way in growing the game!
General Manager, Paul Lancaster who co-led the club’s push to SafeGolf, said: “Aldenham is a great club, it’s very friendly, welcoming and forward-thinking. This award helps us to spread that message and to tell people that children are safe and secure here and that we understand about beginner golfers.”
The award was presented to Aldenham Golf & Country club by Marc Smith, England Golf’s Hertfordshire Club Support Officer. “I’m delighted that Aldenham have achieved SafeGolf and that its efforts to grow the game can be nationally recognised.”
