HOPE HUME OF MILL GREEN (L) AND ELLIE FARWELL OF SANDY LODGE (R)
Hertfordshire Golf ‘Girls Autumn Meeting’ – Report.
Friday November 1st 2019 Dyrham Park Country Club.
After a half term of lovely crisp sunny days inevitably, Friday was the complete contrast, wet, soggy and dull and not at all inspirational for the 21 girls participating in the 2019 Girls Autumn Meeting.
This is the first event Hertfordshire Golf have held at Dyrham Park for quite some time and the venue presents a very impressive set up. A ‘mansion’ for a club house, a terrific golf course measuring 5813 yards from the red tees with more than adequate practise facilities and fantastically attentive staff serving great food. A real comfort on a bad weather day!
The Girls Autumn Meeting tournament is an 18-hole Stableford competition with the added bonus of competing for the ‘Cunningham Salver’ presented to the player who returns the best ‘gross’ aggregate stableford score from both the Spring and Autumn meeting. The girls also receive double ‘Order Of Merit’ points (GOOM) which will prove crucial to contenders at this final event on the Hertfordshire Golf calendar.
Congratulations to Hope Hume (28) Mill Green, having been victorious in the ‘Spring Meeting’ held at her home club once again took 1st place with 41 stableford points.
Ellie Farwell (4) Sandy Lodge and the 2018 defending champion, won the Barbara Quirk Shield for the best ‘Gross’ Stableford score with 33 points.
The runner up, Ava Gifford Moore (9) Sandy Lodge, beat Maia Vanston (20) Bishop’s Stortford into 3rd place on count back with both girls returning 35 stableford points.
The ‘Cunningham Salver’, presented to the player with the best aggregate ‘gross’ score from both the Spring & Autumn meet was presented to Ellie Farwell (4) Sandy Lodge who returned 33 points on the day making a combined 60 points. (27 & 33)
The winners were all awarded trophies and John Lewis vouchers by the President of Hertfordshire Golf Reverend Hugh Wikner and the top ten girls in both the nett and gross Order of Merit competition have been awarded double points and added to the 2019 leader board.
Final results of both the boys and girls Order Of Merit competition can be viewed at: https://www.hertfordshiregolf.org/order_of_merit
Congratulations to everyone who played and well done to all those who won a prize or achieved a personal best on the day. 😊
