Report from Boys Under 16 Manager Tony Pohlman;
The 2019 Boys Under 16 South East Group league finals were held last weekend at the very testing but beautiful Aldeburgh Golf Club in Suffolk, where the wind off the Alde estuary and north sea make this a fine challenge for any golfer regardless of ability. Mercifully the competition was played off the White medal tees as oppose to the championship tees, but even so over the course par is 68 and the SSS is 72!
The weather was slightly better on the Sunday than forecast but the strong winds did play a factor. The competing counties were Sussex, Essex and Hertfordshire, and all played some fine golf over this tricky course. But in the end Sussex proved to be the strongest team gaining a victory over Hertfordshire by 5 1/2 - 2 1/2 , though three of the games went down to the last hole, both Sussex and Hertfordshire beat Essex 6 - 2.
Hertfordshire would like to thank Aldeburgh GC for their warm welcome and hospitality over the weekend. This is the second year where the Hertfordshire Boys have narrowly missed out of winning the Trophy, but all the support team are proud of the boys performance and the team spirit they displayed and wish them the best for the 2020 season.
