2019 MEN'S SENIOR CHALLENGE TROPHY 'WINNERS', FROM L TO R, PETER DAWSON GOODEY (RUNNER UP), CLIFFORD ANSTEY (WINNER) AND ANDY BUTLER (3rd PLACE).
A ‘window’ in the current weather pattern meant that the 50 entrants of the ‘Seniors Challenge’ managed to play all 18 holes of stableford golf without getting wet yesterday (Mon 30 Sep) at Brickendon Grange.
Whilst our courses desperately need water, it would be so much more enjoyable if the rain would fall overnight however! An 8.00am tee time meant an early start, not only for the players but also for the green keepers who were hard at it ‘ironing’ the greens when we arrived in the dark!
The event was won on count back, by Brickendon Grange member Clifford Anstey (8) returning a solid score of 37 points from a fellow Brickendon Grange member, Peter Dawson Goodey (11) who also accumulated 37 points.
Andy Butler (16) from Moor Park GC finished 3rd with 35 points also on count back over the unlucky Steven Pollock (15) of Hartsbourne Country Club.
There were age group prizes for the best 75+, won by Michael Hardman (19) from Moor Park with 30 points and the “65 to 74” winner Norman Cameron (7) from Porters Park GC with 33 points.
The Competition Standard Scratch was 73 (34 points) against the par of 71 (36 points) and the SSS of 72 (35 points).
An enjoyable Carvery with a dessert of sticky toffee pudding was served in the beautifully renovated Grange Suite.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part and especially to all the members of staff at Brickendon Grange. A special thank you to head green keeper Lewis Mattholie for getting the course in shape so early on a Monday morning.
Congratulations to the winners but especially to those of you who achieved a personal best on the day and commiserations to those whose game deserted them.
Diary Date: We look forward to seeing everyone in 2020 at Mid Herts Golf Club on Monday September 28th.
