Ellen Hume of Mill Green GC has won the Ladies County Championship with a scintillating display of attacking golf over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. She returned from University in South Carolina on Thursday just in time for a practice round at chilly and challenging Sandy Lodge GC. She then led the 16 qualifiers from Friday's 36 hole strokeplay with a total of 144 (level par). This was 6 strokes better than Kelly Hutcherson (Welwyn Garden City) and 13 ahead of third placed Ye Hee Lee (Moor Park).
On Saturday, Ellen had comfortable victories over Mawgan Vater (East Herts) and Jackie Foster (Bishops Stortford), but her semi-final on Sunday morning was a different story. In a match that was always closely contested, Honor Keilty (West Herts) actually led after the 15th, before Ellen won the last 3 holes to set up a final against Sandy Lodge member Ellie Farwell.
Ellen played the first 9 holes of the final in 30 strokes and then eagled the 11th to stand 8 under par and 7up. Ellie did win the 12th but Ellen confirmed victory at the 13th.
The Pam Lane Salver for players defeated in the last 16 was won by Bronagh O'Keefe (Sandy Lodge), beating Micaela du Plessis (Harpenden) on the last green.
