GREG HURLEY OF ST ALBANS BOYS SCHOOL/THE HERTFORDSHIRE - 2019 HERTS SCHOOLS SCRATCH CHAMPION

Hertfordshire Schools Golf 2019 Scratch Championship ‘Rose Bowl’ Competition Results.

Wednesday March 27th 2019 Hanbury Manor G&CC

As always with schools’ golf events, there was a full field of 72 players comprising of 60 boys and 12 girls for this prestigious event. A day off school to play golf must seem like a dream come true!

Handicap entry level for the boys is 12 and below and 18 and below for girls, with prizes for best overall scratch winner and runner up, (aged up to 19) and best under 16 winner and runner in both boys’ and girls’ categories.

For so early in the year we were blessed with dry and sunny conditions, although fresh for the early starters and the course was reported to have been in good condition considering how dry Summer 2018 was.

Three Hertfordshire Golf referees were on hand to guide the players through the new 2019 rules and play commenced from both the 1st & 10th tees at 09.30.

The prize giving was held in the hotels ‘Poles Hall’ which afforded great acoustics for the speeches.

Greg Hurley (The Hertfordshire GC) representing St. Albans School retained the overall winner’s trophy, having won the event in 2018, with a gross score of 69 (-3). He is only the third player in the history of the event to have won the trophy in consecutive years.

Overall runner up was Max Hopkins (Bishop’s Stortford GC) representing Hockerill AEC with a score of 70 (-2).

The Girls overall winner was Sophia Fullbrook (Redbourn GC) representing St. Albans School for Girls with a gross score of 81.

Overall runner up in the girl’s competition was Millie Pratten (Essendon GC) representing Chancellors School, who beat Ellie Farwell (Sandy Lodge GC) representing St. Clement Danes School, on count back with a gross score tie of 82.

In the under 16’s event, the Boys winner was Max Hopkins and Girls winner was Sophia Fullbrook, with Jack Bigham (Redbourn GC) representing Roundwood School taking 2nd place with a gross 71 (-1) and for the Girls Fleur Butler-Wright (Redbourn GC) representing Sir John Laws School with an 84.

Massive congratulations to the winners and to all those who achieved a personal best on the day.
