A SOGGY PUTTING GREEN AT ALDENHAM G&CC
Unfortunately one of our major Boys events was cancelled yesterday (Thu 1 Nov), when heavy and torrential rain rendered the course unplayable and with limited daylight, the difficult decision to cancel the event was made at around midday.
When competitors arrived on site it was only lightly drizzling and play got underway on schedule at 9am, but unfortunately the heavens opened around 30 minutes after the first games had started and quickly the course began to show some waterlogging. After almost an hour of heavy rain most of the greens became unplayable and play was eventually suspended at around 10:15am.
The weather did briefly improve and with the help of the greenskeepers squeegee-ing the greens, the course once again became playable. It therfore looked likely that play could be resumed around midday, which would allow the event to be completed in time before dark, which now out of BST was around 4:20pm.
Unfortunately another band of heavy rain hit the course around 11:45am. flooding the greens once again and which ultimately put pay to any hope of getting the event completed before darkness.
As always our stance is to try our upmost to get the event played on the day as scheduled, but unfortunately the weather got the better of us.
The event will not be rescheduled this year and we will hope for better weather for the 2019 playing of the event, at Redbourn GC on Thursday 31st October.
All competitors will be reimbursed their £30 entry fees in due course.
