A full field of 72 players assembled from twenty Hertfordshire based schools and played 18 holes at Essendon Country Club last Tuesday (23rd Oct), on a sunny yet chilly autumn day to contest the ‘Herts Schools Team Championship’.
The winners of the tournament are the team with the best two stableford points score from their team of three players.
It was an excellent day with fierce competition between the schools. Early scores recorded by Berkhamsted School put them in pole position but as more scores flooded in they fell away finishing tied 5th alongside Monks Walk School with 74 points.
Dame Alice Owens school and Bishop’s Stortford High School finished in a tie for second place with 76 points apiece, however Dame Alice Owens ended up 3rd after a third card countback (34 points verses 36).
An amazing late score of 42 points from Esme Hume of Roundwood Park School meant the team of Esme, her brother Louis Hume and Ross Lea crept over the finish line with 77 points in 1st place, just 1 point better than Bishop’s Stortford High and Dame Alice Owens to take the title and the chance to represent Hertfordshire at Woodhall Spa in the National Finals on Wednesday July 10th 2019.
Well done to everyone who competed and we hope many of you achieved a personal best on the day.
