BROWNIES IN ACTION!!
On September 30th five Brownie groups from the Radlett area attended an Activity Weekend at Well End Scout Centre, Borehamwood. The age range was 6-16.
A total of 107 girls attended and all of them tried golf as an activity.
They were offered a follow on beginners course of 5 lessons at Radlett Driving Range and 20 have signed up with more to follow. After these lessons an Improvers course will be offered to the girls. Hopefully some of them will then go on to join the junior section of a local golf club.
After the much lauded Golf Sixes at the Centurion Golf Club in May a Golf Sixes league was formed in the county. Basically the competition comprises 6 players playing 6 holes at 6 different venues. The event was sponsored by the Golf Foundation who also provided very colourful shirts for the players. The winners of the league were Verulam with Essendon as runners up. Hopefully this format will continue next year.
The project at Radlett Lodge School financed by Sport England will continue till the end of March. The school is a specialist school for kids with Autism and all 55 pupils are currently involved in golf lessons in one way or another. Not only does golf help them to become active but it also helps in their development and intergration within society.
We are hopeful that we have managed to secure funding to continue this project till 2020.
