Herts v Bucks @ Welwyn Garden City GC – Thursday 1st July 2021
Match report
Herts Ladies Seniors secured their first loss of the season playing at home to a strong Bucks side, losing 5 ½ – 1 ½. Both sides had reserves brought into play following COVID isolation rules, fortunately Bucks had a no 1 player compared to Herts having a no 7, hence HC differences were always favouring the away team for this scratch match of 7 singles. Herts missed their no 1 Jackie Foster who must be mentioned as she has secured her place in the Semi-Final play offs for the English Senior Women's Amateur Championship being played at Market Rasen GC.
Welwyn Garden City was in excellent condition, with the rough playing tough and the fairways defined and lush from the barmy British weather. The undulations of the course on both the greens and fairways unfortunately proved trickier for home players than away, where some of their squad clearly benefitted from a practice round earlier in the week.
Player/Manager Aly Nedza ensured the sun shone for the squad, who thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon tea on the patio, with roses cut from nearby first tee, to match the Hertfordshire Golf pink shirts.
A massive thanks to the team namely, Sandra Moses, Rita Davidson, Lindsay Murray-Gray, Birgitte Karle, Sarah Hirst-Malin, Tina Bowe and Aly Nedza.
A special thanks to President Anne Pyke, who saw everyone off the first, her visit was much appreciated.
