What have we been up to this month?

School Games 5th July 2019

The School Games has been on an incredible journey since its inception in 2010. They are now on the next stage to ensure that it reaches every young person and continues to drive competitive school sport. At the core of this work is the unwavering belief that competitive school sport should be at the heart of school life. The School Games are overseen by a team of School Games Organisers.

School Games 2019 is an event organised by the Hertfordshire Sports Partnership. Golf Foundation organise the Tri Golf event with support from the County Development Officer, Esther Strous and PGA member, Ryan Newman of Brookmans Park.

The games took place on the 5th July and we had 180 juniors play golf in order to be the winning school of the games. That included the Inclusive Tri Golf where 60 juniors took part. It was a brilliant day with the weather behaving and everyone just had an incredible time. All those that took part are to be congratulated and we are looking forward to next years event.

Women on Par Events

In short, it is a tried and tested 9 hole event. It features a novel scoring system, using a challenge scorecard, to help beginners learn the basic rules and etiquette of the game. Instead of counting shots, the scorecard outlines challenges for players to undertake, for example hitting the green or getting out of the bunker in one.

There are two levels of challenge scorecard, so events can cater for beginners and those who have played a little.

Women on Par helps new golfers develop as players. It’s also great fun and a good way to get newcomers involved with the club and its social life.

Pro Challenge

The Professionals are challenged to get a team of 4 beginners, coach them in 8 weeks leading into the event on the course. This has been very successful in the past and creates a great atmosphere within the county between the Professionals as they prepare their teams. It is focused on having FUN, it is stress free and just a taster to see if you like the game.

Golf Foundation’s GolfSixes League sees six Hertfordshire golf clubs with teams of 6 players, playing in a Texas Scramble format at the six venues. This league follows the very successful GolfSixes Professional tournament held at Centurion Golf Club in May since 2017.

Hertfordshire Sports Partnership initiatives, such as Year of Physical Activity, support the clubs to grow the game through their own club activities.

Community Activity - Guides and Scouts are one of the targeted audiences where the group support PGA Professionals and clubs to run taster sessions at various uniform groups with the aim of encouraging the participants into regular golf activity.
